I currently write and illustrate for children as well as working as a Web Designer, both independantly and for a cool company in Seattle, Well Built Web. I work primarily with watercolor and pencil, as that provides me with a great deal of freedom and flexibility, and keeps the vitality in the work. I also enjoy working with ink, brush and pen, as well as experimenting with scratchboard. I'm fairly fluent in Photoshop and use that to apply digital color to some of my work in black and white.
Prior to my involvement with illustration and web design, I founded and operated The Monte Villa Farmhouse, an event facility for special events, meetings and weddings. There, my work included the creation and/or management of all marketing, advertising, graphic and web services, as well as event and facilities management. I have also spent time on the production, management and design sides of the visual merchandising and garment industries.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington, as well as Certificates in Art for the Children’s Market, through University of Washington Extension, and Pattern Drafting. My education includes a variety of course work in art, computing, and software applications.
In addition to juggling the above, I love to get lost in a good book, hang out with my husband and kids, do my part to keep the Evergreen State green, (in my garden), and eat chocolate every day.
